FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is a Consultant?
A consultant is an individual who possesses one or more specific areas of expertise in
any field. The consultant provides a review, analysis and recommendations in this area of
expertise for the exclusive benefit of the client. The consultants role within the
clients organization is indirect and advisory, and the consultants unbiased
opinion and professional advice is provided for a fee.
What is the difference between a Consultant and a Contractor?
While there are many similarities between consulting and contracting, the primary
difference between the two is that the Consultant ADVISES and the Contractor PERFORMS activities as directed.
The Consultant determines what needs to be done, and the Contractor does the work.

Why should I use a Consultant from the APC?
The consulting industry is growing at an unprecedented rate. Businesses, both large and
small, have recognized the value of consulting services and are increasingly using them as
a resource. Unfortunately, these businesses often find it difficult to identify quality
consulting services specific to their needs. APC Consultants featured in our Directory
of Professional Consultants and on our web site are credentialled by the APC, experienced in their fields,
and comply with the APCs Standards of Professional Practice.
What kinds of Consultants can I find through the APC?
The APC is a multi-disciplinary organization of consultants. A complete list of
specialties is available on our Consultant Search page.
How do I get more information on an APC Consultant?
A search by specialty, consulting company, or consultant on our Consultant Search page
brings up a link to that consultants detailed information page and, where
applicable, to the consultants web site. Alternatively, refer to the APCs
Directory of Professional Consultants or contact an officer or Board member.
Will you recommend an APC Consultant for my specific problem or
issue?
The names and contact information for all credentialled members who meet your specific
criteria will be provided to you. If the APC does not have a credentialled member who
meets your needs, we will do our best to refer you to an outside consultant.
How much do APCs Consultants charge?
The APC does not determine the rate structures of its member Consultants. A
professional Consultant seeks to deliver the best value to all clients, and enables the
client to make informed decisions regarding value received or anticipated.
Is there a charge for consultant referrals from the APC?
No. APCs Consultant Referral Service is free of charge to the regional
business community.
Does the APC receive compensation for referrals or receive any
portion of consultants fees?
No.
